London Heathrow Airport is the world’s busiest airport for international travelers. It is also the world’s third busiest airport in total traffic overall. Heathrow is owned and operated by the BAA or also commonly known as the British Air Authority. Heathrow serves as a major hub for British Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airlines and BMI.

The airport itself is located only 14 miles from Central London and there are two runways which is reduced from the planned six. There are five different terminals and are of different sizes.

There have been plans to add a 6th terminal to the airport however there has been much criticism regarding the amount of pollution and greenhouse gases another additional terminal would have.

If you are traveling to Heathrow by car the M4 motorway is probably the best route to take as well as the A4. The M25 motorway is ideal if you need to get to terminals 1, 2, and 3.

There are also taxis that frequent the airport and can take you where you need to go if you don’t have a vehicle. Since Terminal 5 has opened the amount of confusion and overcrowding has been reduced dramatically and has improved relations with travelers.
